The Second half of 2009 was indeed very busy as I worked on my new book with Kathleen
Marden Science Was Wrong. My previous book Flying Saucers and Science has
been doing very well since publication at the end of May. Sales were certainly helped by
a 4-hour appearance on Coast to Coast Radio on Sunday night, June 22, 2008, with Las
Vegas Journalist George Knapp, one of the most knowledgeable media people about UFOs of
whom I aware. There were a number of phone/radio interviews and then another Larry King
Show on July 18.
As usual there were too many people and the selected debunkers knew next to
nothing about the subject. The first part was excellent with lecturer/researcher Robert
Hastings introducing his new book UFOs and Nukes and having three former Air Force
officers telling their UFO stories. Messrs. Salas and Jamieson were both involved with
the very impressive Malmstrom AFB case involving the shutdown by UFOs of 10 ICBMs. The
third was Dr. Jacobs who told the incredible tale of catching a UFO on film as it zapped
the warhead on a missile fired down range from Vandenberg AFB and moving at 8000 mph.
Unfortunately, skepti-bunker William Nye, who for years was called The Science Guy
(better would be Mr Deny) was on. He had appeared a few weeks earlier explaining away
Roswell with a totally ludicrous explanation of a Skyhook Balloon supposedly used to
spy on the Soviets. None had been launched at the time of Roswell. It was designed to
lift large payloads to high altitudes for scientific experiments, was not a spy balloon
and was made of polyethylene. Nothing matched witness testimony, but he insisted to me
when I tried to talk to him off camera: “That is the way it was.”
Arrogance and ignorance make a sad, totally unscientific, explanation. He was even worse
with the air force officers suggesting it was just a coincidence that all 10 missiles
went off line. Maybe it was a power failure (power supply was, not surprisingly, triply
redundant). Much more foolishness from him. He stayed on for the 2nd half of the program
and was Joined by SETI specialist Dr. Seth Shostak and James Fox, TV producer of Out of
the Blue, and myself.
I was interrupted so much I thought I was going through a
revolving door. Seth misrepresented my views. Which is no surprise. He made an
interesting point claiming that I had said people who haven’t done any
investigation shouldn’t express an opinion. He noted that one can evaluate work
outside one’s own specialty, if one reads the literature and checks out the person
involved.
I totally agree and did this myself when I did a weekly science commentary for
CBC radio for six years. Unfortunately, the SETI cultists have not read the UFO
literature and never reference it. Therefore, they are not able to make scientific
comments. I talk about this at length in FSS in the chapter about the Cult
of SETI.
Also drawing a great deal of attention lately were comments made by Dr. Edgar Mitchell,
the sixth man to walk on the Moon (Apollo 14). He shocked a UK radio broadcaster by
stating that Roswell was real, that there had been many alien visits to earth, and that
there was a substantial worldwide cover-up. Been a lot of reaction to the comments.
These views aren’t new. Edgar had lived in Roswell as a youth, had been informed
by insiders that there was plenty of information, etc. He wrote a foreword
to FSS.
A highlight:
July 2-6, 2008 Roswell, NM, Annual Crash Festival. I gave four lectures and signed a lot
of copies of my new book. Kathleen Marden was there, gave a very well received lecture
and signed many copies of Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience by
Kathleen and myself. She is Betty’s niece and did most of the work.
